Car Burglaries
Posted on Jan 5th, 2015
The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) received a call from a resident that they heard a loud noise (this morning) outside their home and when they checked, they found a window broken out of their vehicle that was parked outside. The LCSO responded and located two male subjects and took one into custody. The other subject got away but is now in custody in Chattanooga. Both are from Chattanooga and had been visiting Knoxville. At least five LCSO vehicles responded to this incident. This incident is NOT related to the incident on Watt Rd. where a subject got away from the THP.
The LCSO has information that these two were responsible for more than a dozen car burglaries in Avalon last night. Only two of the burglaries have been reported. LCSO believes that most of the car burglaries were to vehicles that were unlocked and little or nothing was taken, which usually results in owners not reporting. In one case where the window was broken, the thieves did so because valuables were clearly visible. Some of these car burglaries occurred on Oak Chase and Sky View. The LCSO has recovered the majority of the items stolen and could possible recover more items after interviewing the suspect that is in custody in Chattanooga. Charges are pending on both subjects.
From my experience in law enforcement, it is rare and difficult to catch car burglars at or near the scene of their crimes. It happened this morning because an alert resident called the LCSO and when called, the LCSO responded quickly and with lots of resources. A special thanks should go to the resident that called the LCSO and also to the LCSO for their response.
This incident should serve as an example that these types of events can occur in Avalon. The incident should also encourage other residents to call the LCSO when they suspect any suspicious activity. As always, I suggest that residents, that park a vehicle outside overnight, should remove all valuables from their vehicles.
